Happy Camper

Jadon Segovia of Hilo and Dennis Rull of the Kaua‘i team solved the problem of relatives cheering for both teams — the ‘ohana shared one tent and cheered for everybody at the Bronco Regional Tournament in Hanapepe.

It’s amazing how many Kaua‘i connections come with visiting teams as Hilo’s leftfielder Darren Ornellas used to play for Kawaihau Minors before moving to Hilo where he was picked up by the Hilo all-stars.

Over in Kawaihau, you couldn’t lose Scott Nakata, who was wearing one of those bright yellow Kaneohe Nationals shirts. Jan Miyamoto has a sister who is connected with the Nationals and added that Sam Arashiro is good friends with the coach and a lot of people with the team.

Coach Albert Soto was at the Hanapepe fields and said the Waimea Fantasy softball tournament is coming up real soon. Hopefully, Pat Baniaga remembers to send a tournament schedule once the Bronco Regionals are done. Was nice to see “coach” Gordon Muramaru, who came out to check out the action and brother Dunn, who is one of the coaches for KAC (ask Lanaly Cabalo to pronounce the expanded version of that team).

Pat is one of the sparkplugs behind the tournament and kudos to all on a great tournament.

Coach Brian Aiwohi was doing the same thing over at Kapa‘a, and still had time to ask about how the West Kaua‘i teams were faring in Hanapepe. Meanwhile, Larry and Sherri Ephan are gearing up for the cage match July 21. Sherri said this time, she’s not going to run out of gas because she’s running on disel.

OK, gotta run … it’s Bronco championship time!
