Anselm K. Liu and Doris S. Liu
Services have been scheduled for former Kalaheo residents Anselm and Doris Liu, who died Feb. 8, 2003, and Feb. 15, 2007, respectively.
After the death of her husband, Doris Liu left the island to live with her daughter Aileen in Topeka, Kansas.
Anselm Liu was born on April 24, 1913, and raised on O‘ahu. He graduated from St. Louis College in Honolulu.
He married Doris and spent his life in public service. He served as County Treasurer of Kaua‘i as an elected official for many years.
Doris was born on Nov. 24, 1913. She spent her life as a devoted wife and mother. In her younger years she taught crafts to many young girls.
Their only son, Anselm, a police officer, preceded them in death.
They are survived by daughters Shirley (Tom) Hodgson, Lily (Wil) Rivera, and Aileen (Don) Vest; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. July 10 at Immaculate Conception Church and committal will follow at Kauai Memorial Park in Lihu‘e.
Miyogo Sugahara
Miyogo Sugahara of Kapa‘a died June 20, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 77.
Born Sept. 15, 1929, in Kalaheo, he was a mechanic with Kapa‘a Super Service.
He is survived by his wife Doris Furugen Sugahara; sons Miles (Cathy) Sugahara of Kilauea, Leslie Sugahara of Kapa‘a; Joel (Faith) Sugahara of Arizona; and Brent Sugahara of Kapa‘a; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters Miyoshi Kyono of Kalaheo and Doris Snyder of Honolulu.
He was preceded in death by his parents Onokichi and Yoshi Sugahara; brother Ben Sugahara, sisters Florence Yamane, Beatrice Kimoto and Nobuko Imada; and great grandchildren Kaya and Cody.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on July 7 at Garden Island Mortuary, where service will begin at 10 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
Garden Island Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Kekoa S. Tecson
Kekoa S. Tecson of Kalaheo died June 27, 2007, at his home at the age of 29.
Born Dec. 22, 1977, on O‘ahu, he was a mailman for Kalaheo Post Office.
He is survived by his wife Karin Bukoski-Tecson; sons Kekoa and Kaimani Tecson; father Ray (April) Tecson and mother Kathleen (Peter Sapinosa) Sasaki; brothers Joe McCann and Ikaika Tecson; sister Kasey Sasaki; grandparents, Florence and Marco Tecson and Shigeyuki and Miriam Sasaki; mother- and father-in-law Howard and Elaine Bukoski; sisters-in-law Julie (Kevin) Akita and Melissa Bukoski; nieces and nephews Tyra Pai, Nakoa Malama, Kash and Hunter Akita and Kanaloa Sasaki-Yasutake. Florence and Marco Tecson; Shigeyuki and Miriam Sasaki.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Church, where Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Alma Carroll
Alma Carroll of Kekaha died June 29, 2007, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 52.
Born Dec. 30, 1954, in Hawai‘i, she is preceded in death by her father Albert Warren Carroll Sr.; mother Jeannette Holt Carroll, and sister Erin Carroll.
She is survived by her brother Albert “Babba” (Gloria) Carroll; sisters Colleen Carroll Johnson, Bridget E. Chandler and Maureen J. Carroll; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Museum.
