HONOLULU — No. 3 seeded Seabury handed Waimea its second loss and elimination from the HHSAA Div. II girls state basketball tournament with a 48-45 win last night at Farrington High School.
Tiana Barbier finished with 17 points, Anuhea Rilveria added a dozen and Yacine Meyer netted 10 points to round out the scoring leaders for Seabury who was knocked out of the running by unseeded Kamehameha-Hawai‘i 58-33 Wednesday.
Waimea, getting a 15-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, was outgunned by the Maui squad 17-11 in the second half, and following a defensive third frame, was able to outshoot Seabury 13-12 in the final period.
Moani Durant, named the KIF girls player, topped the Menehune scoring with 21 points including the sole three-pointer that came in the first half. Ho‘onani Dennis added 11 points and Cheri Kua rounded out the leaders with 7 points.
Tatum Gonsalves was perfect from the free throw line for 5 points and Kiera Barba was limited to just one bucket in four tries. A digit from Aiko Grande accounted for the Waimea math.
