Billing next week as “Valentine’s Week” — causing men to shudder across the island — the Kaua‘i Surfrider Foundation is holding a “For the Love of the Ocean” benefit Feb. 10 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. inside Joe’s on the Green Restaurant in Po‘ipu.
Sashamon, Kai Roots, Blu Dux and Mike Young and the Ho‘ai‘ Bay Band will perform.
A silent auction and a raffle will also help raise money to continue ocean conservation efforts like monthly beach clean-ups and environmental education on coastal water pollution levels. Surfrider also promotes networking with other environmental nonprofits to address local ecological issues.
The chapter also hopes to purchase water-testing equipment and Respect the Beach coastal education curriculum to bring into classrooms on Kaua‘i, according to a Surfrider release.
“We hope that this event will bring out a lot of new folks interested in getting involved with the Kaua‘i chapter, as well as generate awareness about Surfrider, who we are and what we are doing locally,” chairperson Sheri Saari said in the release.
Tickets are $10 in advance and available at Scotty’s Music in Kalaheo, Déjà Vu in Kukui Grove, Progressive Expressions in Koloa and Hanalei Surf Company.
Tickets can also be purchased at the event for $12 at the door.
