A 72-year-old Hanama‘ulu man died last Thursday morning after falling from a vehicle that was heading down a dirt road on private property in Puhi.
According to a release issued Monday by the county, Ricardo Baguyo was a passenger in a Kaua‘i Nursery & Landscaping Inc. van.
Kaua‘i police said the sliding door of the van was left open while the van was in transit on property owned by Kaua‘i Nursery & Landscaping. When the vehicle hit a bump in the road, Baguyo fell out onto the roadway.
He was later transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Baguyo had worked for the company for more than 14 years altogether, the only gap coming when he was laid off for a short period of time after Hurricane ‘Iniki, Jerry Nishek, the general manager, said.
“He was like family to the nursery,” Nishek said. “We’re definitely going to miss him.”
The driver of the van and another passenger were not injured in the incident.
