The Hanapepe Colts Pee Wee Small cheerleading squad took second place in the novice division at the Pop Warner National Championships yesterday in Orlando, Fla.
The Colts earned a score of 77.92. First-place finishers Lexington/Bedford/Hanscom Raiders from New England won with a score of 80.36.
The Lihue Patriots finished 11th in the same division.
The girls’ second-place finish comes a day after the Kekaha Panthers took second in its division.
Accompanying coach Anthony Domingo said it was their facials during the routine that won it for them.
“Their performance was magical,” he said. “Their routine was kind of difficult and they got elevation, but their facials were awesome. They were so much better than the other teams.”
The novice division is the beginning level of cheering.
The Koloa Raiders and the second Hanapepe squad compete tomorrow.
