Yasmine Ware, competing in the 10 and Under division, continues to sizzle as the Mokihana Aquatics swimmer finished the Ken Suenaga Invitational with a near-perfect meet.
The meet, held at the Central O‘ahu Regional Park, saw five Mokihana Aquatics swimmers compete. Ware headed up the contingent that included Ware, Kelsey Tanaka, Meaghan Sims, Kaitlyn Jarry and Tyson Chihara.
Despite missing two of her opening day events Friday due to flight delays, Ware bounced back to finish with improvements in her personal times in all but one event.
“She’s added at least five state times to her portfolio,” said Mokihana Aquatics coach Orlando Anaya. “It was not a perfect meet, but considering how she missed two events due to flight delays, she did really well.”
Of the nine events Ware competed in, the only one she posted no improvement in was the 100 Fly where she finished 31st in the field with a 1:29.97. Her best performance came in the 100 IM where she trimmed 5.71 off her previous time.
Additionally, she finished with 3.0-plus improvements in three events and just missed in the 200 Free where she posted a 2.98 improvement.
Ware earned qualifying times in that event as well as the 50 Back (40.14Y), 50 Fly (37.17Y), 50 Free (32.05Y), 100 IM (1:23.42Y), 50 Breast (44.73Y) and the 100 Back (1:27.95Y).
Chihara, swimming in the Male 15-16 division, added five qualifying times and came home with improvements in five of the 11 events he competed in.
Chihara qualified in the 200 IM (2:14.86Y), 100 Breast (1:10.82Y), 200 Free (1:58.87Y), 100 Back (1:03.02Y) and the 200 Breast (2:34.64Y).
Sims came home with qualifying times in all of her 11 events and added personal performance improvements in four events: 200 Fly (2:34.04Y), 100 Free (1:02.12Y), 200 Breast (2:54.09Y), 100 Fly (1:08.23Y) and 50 Free (27.57Y). Her best improvement came in the 200 Breast where she shaved 3.41 off her previous time.
Tanaka posted three qualifying times and brought back an improvement in one event, the 200 IM (2:23.56Y) where he was .54 better than his previous time.
His qualifying events came in the 100 Breast (1:11.79Y), 100 Free (54.40Y) and 50 Free (24.48Y).
Kailyn Jarry, 13, finished with three individual improvements in the five events she competed in. Jarry’s biggest improvement came in the 200 Back (2:44.78Y) where she cut 6.97 off her previous time. She also posted improvements in the 200 IM (2:47.39Y) and the 100 Back (1:17.32Y) where she shaved 4.90 and 1.59, respectively off her previous times.
Ryann Linthicum, 12, swimming under the Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics banner, led their contingent of competitors by earning qualifying times in three events of the 10 events she swam in. Other SKA swimmers who qualified include Anya Littlefield, 12, Emmalani Rausch, 13, and Alanna Reynolds, 18.
Linthicum qualified in the 200 Free (2:19.05Y), the 100 Free (1:04.96Y) and the 50 Free (29.39Y).
Reynolds qualified in the 100 Back (1:12.22Y), Rausch earned her state time in the 100 Back (1:11.63Y) and Littlefield qualified in the 200 Free (2:20.15Y).
