Following five weeks of play, Koloa remains undefeated with a 4-0 record in the Junior Pee Wee division of Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football Association.
Koloa quarterback Trey Aguano threw for two touchdowns and ran an extra point in a 20-0 win over Lihu‘e last weekend.
The first of Aguano’s touchdown tosses went to Triston Bukoski for 15 yards in the first quarter. Tystin Gummerus pulled in a 21-yarder in the third quarter.
Kelson Andrade graced the first TD with a PAT run, and Aguano tapped the end zone following the second touchdown, a 4-yard run by Kyren Rapacon in the second quarter.
Earlier in the day, Hanapepe, second in the division with five points (2-1-1), came up with two touchdowns in the fourth period to break a 6-6 half-time deadlock.
Kenneth Tacazon tapped paydirt each Hanapepe score, opening the black-and-gold scorebook in the second quarter on a 10-yard run to deadlock the contest.
A 19-yard run early in the fourth quarter broke the tie and Tacazon iced the win with an 18-yard runback of an interception with 1:22 remaining.
After failing twice on the point-after attempt, Tacazon finally ran one in after the third touchdown.
Acetyn Emayo scored Kekaha’s touchdown on a two-yard scamper with 7:02 left in the first quarter.
The victories give Koloa eight points followed by Hanapepe, Lihu‘e (1-1-2), Kekaha (1-2-1) and Kapa‘a (0-4).
Coming off a bye week, Kapa‘a will attempt to break a three-way tie for second place at Vidinha Stadium tomorrow against Lihu‘e at 4:30 p.m.
Alika Emayo scored the only touchdown in Kekaha’s 6-0 win over Hanapepe in the first of two Pee Wee matchups.
The Lihu‘e Patriots came up with two second-half scores to break open a 6-6 half-time tie en route to a 19-6 win over Koloa in the nightcap.
Caleb Licke put Koloa on the board in the second period with a 54-yard runback of a fumble recovery with 4:25 showing in the half.
But Lihu‘e answered with 1:28 remaining as Dade Alao struck paydirt on a 29-yard run for the 6-6 half-time tie.
Brian Haz duplicated Alao’s feat in the third period with a 29-yard score of his own, and Kaimana Wilson handled the point-after honors.
Haz was not done for the day; he tapped paydirt on a four-yarder with just 40 ticks left on the clock.
Hanapepe (2-2), Koloa (2-2) and Lihu‘e (2-2) are tied for second place with Kekaha (1-3) rounding out the leader board.
Lihu‘e, following an 11-8 edge over Koloa, remains undefeated in the Midget division.
Mycah Aquias scored a 26-yard touchdown and capped the victory with a 23-yard field goal with just eight seconds remaining.
Dustin Prim opened up the Koloa scorebooks on a 60-yard run in the opening frame with Anderson Baloran booting the PAT for the 8-0 lead.
This was matched by Aquias in the fourth quarter with Aquias doing the PAT book to tie the contest before Aquias’ boot gave the Patriots the lead for good on the field goal.
Hanapepe Midgets struck early and often, galloping past Kekaha 20-6 in the opener.
Hanapepe Colts’ signal-caller Torrey Santiago threw for two touchdowns and kicked the PAT following the second touchdown to lead Hanapepe in the second quarter.
Clifton Kanahele was the recipient of Santiago’s first pass, a 21-yard strike, followed by Javin Balisican pulling in a 30-yarder for the second score.
Jace Delos Reyes capped the first half on a four-yard run with 43 seconds showing.
Kaimana Alquiza kept Kekaha from being shut out with a four-yard run in the final two minutes of play.
The victory puts the Colts in pursuit of the Patriots with a 3-1 record. Kapa‘a (1-3), Kekaha (1-3) and Koloa (1-3) battle for third place honors.
Hanapepe will host Koloa in the opening series at Vidinha this Saturday starting at 8 a.m. Kapa‘a will take on Lihu‘e in the afternoon series starting at 2:30 p.m.
