Tsugime Takemoto
Tsugime Takemoto of Wailua Homesteads, died July 16, 2006, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home in ‘Oma‘o at the age of 86.
Born Feb. 2, 1920, in Modesto, Calif., she was a strong supporter of the American Legion. She revived American Legion Unit 2 and served as president on Kaua‘i. She also served as department president for three terms with Honolulu Unit 1 and was the Hawai‘i representative at all national Conventions on the Mainland. She worked as a paramedical assistant for Hale Hau’oli, Department of Health, State of Hawai‘i, and volunteered for many organ-izations like ARC and Special Olympics.
She later retired in Wailua Homesteads.
Preceded in death by her husband, Wallace “Wally” Takemoto, she is survived by three children, one son: Jack Takemoto of Elmwood, Nebraska; two daughters: Lei Ann Takemoto of Kapa‘a and Joyce Takemoto of Castro Valley, Calif.; one grandchild: Tinina Takemoto Olores and two great-grandchildren: Mahina Yuhi Olores and Waipuna Kailiokalani Takemoto Olores of Kalaheo.
Private dervices will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 2.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Albin ‘Jack’ Canute
Albin ‘Jack” Canute of Kaneohe, formerly of Kekaha, died July 19, 2006, at the age of 80.
Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., he retired as Site Manager for Sandia National Labs, Kauai Test Facility, Barking Sands.
Preceded in death by daughter Jacqueline Ann Canute, he is survived by his wife Margaret O. Canute; sons Thomas (Joy) Canute of Hanapepe, Timothy (Deidre) Canute of Vancouver, BC, and Michael (Joyce) Canute of Kaneohe; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Private services and scattering of ashes will be held on Kaua‘i at a later date. Donations can be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice Hawaii, Catholic Diocese (Office of the Bishop), or the Kauai Junior Golf Association.
Jean Ann Baumler
Jean Ann Baumler died July 18, 2006, at the age of 55.
Born April 22, 1951, she was the daughter of Rita (Lansing) Baumler and the late Melvin Baumler. She worked at several hospitals in California and Hawai‘i, and was the administrator for a Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Until recently, she worked as a private nurse on Kaua‘i.
For the past 10 years she lived in Lihu‘e.
Preceded in death by her father Melvin and brother-in-law Steve Smith, she is survived by her mother Rita, sisters Arlene Smith of La Crosse. WI, Ruth McKinnon Clyde of California, Diane (Mikael) Hakansson of Palo Alto, Calif., brothers Don (Donna), Mark (Karleen) and Kevin (Angela) all of West Union, IA.
Services will be Aug. 11, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, IA.
Dollyan “Dolly” Basa
Dollyan “Dolly” Basa of Koloa, died July19, 2006, at Hale Kupuna Health Care Center in ‘Oma‘o at the age of 63.
Born April 23, 1943, in Waimea, she was a custodian for ITT Industries at Pacific Missile Range Facility.
She is survived by four daughters: Valerie (Paul) Peters, Darlene Pereira, Allison (Ernest) Vasquez, and Janell (Dino) Basa, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister Dawn Agao of Honolulu; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are planned for a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
