He’s just about the face of surfing, especially if you talk about the history of the sport, which started in Hawai‘i.
And now, it’s fitting world-renowned surfer and Kaua‘i resident Laird Hamilton takes over the cover and main story of the April issue of Men’s Journal.
“He not only has a love for surfing and danger, but he also holds a special place in his heart for his childhood town of Hanalei,” Men’s Journal spokesperson Erica Kestenbaum said in a press release.
Hamilton, whose wife is Gabby Reece, a former Olympic volleyball player, is currently building a home on Kaua‘i.
“He takes Men’s Journal on short tour of his home base. The story takes a deeper look into the life of the world’s greatest surfer, as he reveals his secret Hawaiian hideout,” Kestenbaum said.
The article, which is titled “Every Man Deserves an Island,” written by Bucky McMahon, goes deep inside Hamilton’s life and love of the island.
Hamilton also gives insight on things he likes to do on the island.
He contends that hiking the Kalalau Trail is a must and that paddling and taking a helicopter tour around the island are great ways to experience one of the most beautiful places on earth.
