Kaua’i U.S. Open qualifier set for May 19
Registration is now open for the U.S. Open qualifier on Kaua’i.
On May 19, the U.S. Open local qualifying will take place at the Po’ipu Bay Golf Course.
Then on June 5, the open sectional qualifying will also be at the Po’ipu Bay Golf Course.
Entries for the 2006 U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Women’s Open are now available online. You can either download an application or register online. The USGA encourages all players to take advantage of the user-friendly Internet process available on their Web site at www.usga.org/champs.
The Local Qualifiers are 18- hole qualifiers. Top players will advance to the 36-hole Sectional Qualifiers.
The U.S. Open event is open to professional players and to amateurs with a handicap index not exceeding 1.4. The U.S. Women’s Open event is open to professional players and to amateurs with a handicap index not exceeding 4.4. The U.S. Senior Open event is open to professional players and to amateurs with a handicap index not exceeding 3.4 over the age of 50 by 7/6/06.
Fundraiser for USGA Public Links qualifier Starting this month, there will be a series of three (March, April, May) tournaments (fundraisers) to assist the Kaua’i Public Links qualifier as he or she represents Hawai’i in the national competition.
The contests will take place on the weekends of March 25-26, April 15-16, and May 13-14 at the Wailua Golf Course.
The format is low net (full handicap) 18 holes. Play as often as you want during Saturday and Sunday.
Entry fee is $20 per 18 hole score. The events are sponsored by Big Save, Inc., with the store handing out $600 in gift certificates (1st, $250, 2nd, $100, 3rd, $100, 4th, 5th, 6th, $50 each).

Softball club looking for players The Central Girls Softball Club is looking for girls between the ages of 7 and 14 and also coaches for their upcoming softball season.

Lihu’e Pop Warner meeting The Lihu’e Pop Warner Association will be having a general membership meeting on Friday, April 7 at the Lihu’e Neighborhood Center at 6 p.m. All parents and participants are strongly urged to attend this very important meeting. Registration packets for the 2006 tackle & cheer season will be distributed.

Calling all women’s golfers The Mokihana Club of Kaua’i is pleased to announce that its 4th Annual Women’s Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, April 22. The event will take place at the Mokihana Golf Course at the Kaua’i Lagoons with an 8 a.m. shotgun start (registration at 7 a.m.).
The scramble is a benefit for the club’s nursing scholarship program, which has donated $17,000 to aspiring student nurses on Kaua’i. Golfers must register by April 10. For entry form and information, please call Mary Davis at 742-8948 or Mary June Purvis at 332-0651.
