Sylvester Oliveira Jr.
Sylvester “Oli” Oliveira Jr. of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 20, 2006, at the age of 53.
Born in Honolulu, Hawai‘i on Oct. 11, 1952, he was a sergeant with the Kaua‘i Police Department serving his community for 29 years, just 2 months short of his retirement. Preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Oliveira Sr., and sister, Ginny Warner, survived by his wife Yolanda Oliviera of Lihu‘e; son, Daniel (Keana) Oliveira of Wailua; two daughters, Tasha Oliveira and Melissa (Jared) Oliveira of Lihu‘e; mother, Helen Oliveira; brother, Steven (Gene) Oliveira of New York; two sisters, Bernice (Harry) Chrowder of Oregon, Joanne Oliveira of Honolulu; six grandchildren, Austin, Kaimi, Makalii, Kalama, Zayden, Kilinoe; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation at 8 a.m.and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. by Fr. Bill Shannon.
Arrangements are being handled by the staff of Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
John Pavao Sr.
John Pavao Sr. of Kalaheo, died Feb. 17, 2006, at his home in Kalaheo at the age of 81.
Born May 5, 1924, on Kaua‘i, he was a lumber truck driver.
Preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Pavao and son Earl Pavao, he is survived by four sons: John (Diana) Pavao, Jr., Pierre (Julie) Pavao, David (Janice) Pavao and William (Regina) Pavao; two daughters: Keala Bartolini and Jonele Leina‘ala Pavao; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, where Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m.
Arrangements are being handled by the staff of Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Bernard Roy Silva
Bernard Roy Silva of Kalaheo died at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital on Feb. 15, 2006, at the age of 48. An auto-body technician, he was born on Kaua‘i on March 9, 1957.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Silva; son, Bernard Silva Jr.; daughters Cherie Silva and Jenny Silva; mother, Beatrice Silva; brothers Joey Silva and Nicholas Silva, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may join family members for viewing on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, where Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Family members suggest those attending wear casual attire, and that flowers be omitted.
Officials at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary are handling the arrangements.
