Free positive coaching workshops offered
The Boys & Girls Club and the Positive Coaching Alliance is offering three free workshops on Friday and Saturday.
All coaches involved with Kaua’i’s youth are invited to attend, but the two-hour workshop is required for all adults coaching in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Hawai’i, including the upcoming Termite basketball league. Individuals who are not certified in 2006 will not be allowed to coach.
Workshops will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center; from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club, Kapa’a Clubhouse (next to the Bernice Hundley Gym on the Kapa’a High School campus); and from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center.
The workshop teaches youth leaders about becoming a positive influence with the goal of becoming “Double Goal Coaches.” The Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a national organization, stresses replacing the “win-at-all-cost coach” with the “Double-Goal Coach.” Double Goal Coaches want to win, but more importantly, use sports to help teach life lessons.
Coaches and parents are encouraged to attend.
