UH to seek proposals for TV rights
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
HONOLULU — University of Hawai‘i athletic director Herman Frazier said Wednesday that the school will issue a request for proposals for the television rights to its men’s and women’s sports.
The university and KHNL/KFVE, which currently has the rights, have been engaged in exclusive negotiations for several months, Frazier said.
While the talks have been productive, the university has become aware of interest from other entities, he said.
The RFP is to be sent Friday to all interested parties.
A prebid meeting is set for April 29, and the deadline for submission of proposals is May 6.
Waimea Baptist gets physical
The Waimea Baptist West Side Wrestling Club was recently organized and the first signup meeting was on Sunday, April 10.
The club met for the first time in the church’s newly renovated fellowship hall and one half of a new wrestling mat has been placed in it for club activities.
The other half of the mat is located at Kaua‘i Christian Fellowship in Po‘ipu.
Both locations are under the Waimea Baptist Wrestling Club charter.
The club is also a new charter member of USA Wrestling, headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Purpose
The purpose in Waimea Baptist Church sponsoring this program is an effort on the church’s part to provide the west and south-side children, youth and adults an anti-drug and alcohol-free type of program that promotes healthy life styles in exercise and wrestling in our communities.
There are some benefits for anyone joining the club; (1) each person will receive a membership card, (2) a complimentary subscription to USA-Wrestler, the official newspaper of amateur wrestling, (3) discounts on all American Wrestling Supplies, through All American Wrestling Supply, (4) secondary sports accident insurance benefits, (5) members covered by primary Liability Insurance by USA Wrestling and (6) be eligible to participate in all USA Wrestling events on the Island of Kaua‘i, in the state of Hawai‘i and the USA.
The club will accept all ages and both genders for its new members in both locations.
The Westside club will be meeting again on Sundays , through the 24th from 2:30- 4:30 p.m. for more new signups.
The South Side will meet on Saturday, April 23, at Kaua‘i Christian Fellowship in Poipu. Waimea Baptist Church is located at the corner of Hwy. 50 and Waimea Canyon Dr., just across from the Waimea Technology Center.
If you think you are up for the challenge of the sport of wrestling or know anyone that would love to learn the sport or even excel in it, then come on down and give it a try!
Please call Ray Pigott at 337-1760 (for both locations) or Pastor James C. Merritt at 338-1227 (Westside) for more information.
Kaona commends players
At the 2005 Kirk Banks Tournament Megan Perius, Tatiana Dykhouse, and Mallory Mosso of my U12 team (East Kaua‘i) were all vital parts of our team and they played above and beyond their abilities, coming off the field at quarter break tired from exhaustion, but never once complaining and going back out onto the field and giving the same effort time and time again.
The girls knew the situation and accepted the challenge. Again I am truly proud of my team for their play and display of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
