After two years, the Kaua‘i Police Department, with the assitance of the community supporters, has reached out to over 1,000 Kaua‘i keiki.
And KPAL is looking to make that number even larger by opening some new programs.
KPAL is a recreation-oriented crime prevention program which relies upon athletics, recreational and educational activities to create and cement a bond between the officers of KPD and the children and youth of Kaua‘i.
The KPAL promotes a common meeting ground for police officers and officials, citizens and the children and youth in the community for sports, education and recreational activities.
It fosters and encourages American principles in the tradition of sportsman-ship, goodwill, and friendship. There are over 1,000 Kaua‘i children and youth signed up for these programs with more to be offered as the program develops.
Some of the activities already being offered are jiujitsu, wrestling (soon to be island-wide), pitch-hitrun baseball, flag football & cheerleading, and educational presentations such as drug prevention.
In the near future, KPAL will start boxing, winter league baseball, beach volleyball, and tennis. The Kauai PAL is a recognized chapter of the National PAL.
Supervision and coaching is being primarily provided by volunteer police officers and community volunteers.
The sustainability of the Kaua’i PAL relies on community support.
