Melchura Catbagan of Kapa‘a, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 16, 2005, at the age of 93.
Born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Jan. 10, 1912, she was preceded in death by daughters, Delphina Haraguchi and Pacitia Roldan.
She is survived by husband, Maurice Sr.; sons, Rudolpho (Val) Catbagan and Maurice (Diane) Catbagan Jr., both of Mesa, Arizona; daughters, Irene Williams of Sacramento, Calif. and Leilani (Darryl) Cramer of Smyrna, TN; grandsons, Jonathan Roldan, Andrew Catbagan, Christopher Catbagan, Curtis Catbagan, Corey Catbagan, Kirk Williams, Jr., and Jesse Cramer; granddaughters, Beverly Ames, Janes Duhonich and Debra Ventura; numerous great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapa‘a; followed by service. Burial at the Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Keith Asuncion
Keith Asuncion of Lihu‘e, died Feb. 19, 2005, at Pali Momi Hospital in Aiea, O‘ahu , at the age of 46.
A carpenter, he was born May 1, 1958, in Lihu‘e.
He is survived by his wife: Moana Jean Haunani Asuncion of Kapa‘a; mother: Colette (Tevita) Tovi of Hanama‘ulu; father: Alfredo (Kathleen) Asuncion of Wailua; three sons: Keith Keoni Kiilau of Lihu‘e, Calvin Keala Kiilau of Lihu‘e and Clifford Keola Kiilau, of Lihu‘e; three sisters: Crystel (Randy) Chong Tim of Lihu‘e, Kimberly Hocson of Kapahi, and Jan Asuncion of Kapahi; four brothers: Wayne (Theresa) Asuncion of Kapa‘a, Clayton Asuncion of Lihu‘e, Alfred Asuncion of Kapahi and Raymond (Sara) Asuncion of Kilauea; four grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary, with services to follow. Bishop Stennett officiating Private scattering of cremains will take place at Ahukini Landing. Aloha attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Marcia L. Outcalt
Marcia L. Outcalt, 70, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born August 18, 1934, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, she was married to Dr. David L. Outcalt on July 1, 1956. They lived in Wailua Homesteads since 1997.
After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in education from Bowling State University in 1956, she had careers as a teacher, real estate sales associate and was Director of Relocations Services for Montgomery of Wisconsin, Inc. in Green Bay when she retired in 1997. While working, she also effectively raised friends for the University of Alaska, Anchorage and the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay during the years her husband was chancellor of those universities.
She traveled overseas extensively, especially in support of her husband’s work for the International Association of University Presidents. Twice in the early 1980s, she traveled with the Alaska delegation headed by her husband, which negotiated the Alaska-Siberia Medical Exchange.
She is survived by her husband David, four children, Jeffrey D. Outcalt (Gail) and Gregory M. Outcalt (Kathy) of Pacific Palisades, Calif., Kevin D. Outcalt (Debbie) of Alamo, Calif., and Eric M. Outcalt (Melissa) of Honolulu, and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held in Mt. Vernon, Ohio and are being handled by Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. After the services, David will be visiting with family on the mainland for a time and welcomes well-wishers to contact him on his mobile phone. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rotary Club of Kapaa Foundation in Marcia’s name.
Frederick Walters
Frederick Walters of Kapa‘a, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 83.
Born March 8, 1921, in New Jersey, he was a decorated veteran of WWII & the Korean War with two Silver Stars, two Bronze stars, and a Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife: Irene Walters of 58 years; two daughters: Patricia (Daniel) Alcaraz, Jr. and Pamela and Kim Potter.
Services will be Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Punch Bowl Cemetery. Inurnment will be held at 11:30 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
