KALAHEO – Kelcey Cadiente celebrated her 12th birthday one day early as she joined Katrina Dreier to lead Lihu‘e to a 40-9 showing over Kalaheo at the Thursday night games of the county’s 12 and Under girls basketball league.
Cadiente and Dreier each notched ten points in the win, Cadiente sizzling the court with her everywhere prescense and drawing cheers from the former 14 and Under players that were on hand to witness the trio of games.
Dreier, on the other hand, backed the play action in the paint and notched in her share of putbacks as well as taking some low post passes.
Kayla Perez finished with eight points to help Lihu‘e with Sierra Mayer contributing six points. Kelsey Alao rounded out the scoring with four markers.
Leah Emura, scoring the sole trey in the contest, paced the Kalaheo squad who also got pairs from Christina Pearson, Shelyin Parker, and Melissa Miner.
Jodie Das notched a game-high 14 points for Wailua in the second contest, but Waimea B&G steadily outdistanced the girls in green behind an 11-point showing by guard Jaymie Jacinto. Kaira Kupihea, Wailua’s other forward helped the effort with seven points.
Erin Connelly played a key role in Waimea’s inside game to finish with eight points followed by Bristy Agu erupting for six second-half markers.
Rose Palama finished with four points and a digit by Vakeesha Lagazo rounded out the Waimea scoring.
In the finale, Tanisha Defabian cleaned up numerous Westside Hornet scoring efforts to finish with a game-high 16 points in their 38-6 showing over Gee’s Angels who was led by Mahea Grace and Shaylyn Tupo, each Angel tucking in a pair.
Seven teams comprise the county’s 12 and Under program that kicked off their season last Thursday, Jan. 13 and will play on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings through Saturday, Feb. 19.
Coach Talbert Tacbian, coming off a sweep of the county’s 14 and Under girls program, heads the Wailua squad with Cecil Gee heading up Gee’s Angels with help from parent Danny Creamer.
Kaleo Perez coaches Lihu‘e, Russell Grady is at the helm of RKCCG, another Lihu‘e team, and Rob Bradbury coaches Kalaheo.
Maynard Shea and Antonio Pope head up the Westside Hornets and Bobby Kamakele leads the Waimea B&G Club.
Christina Banach and Bree Ann Cox-Abuan combined for 11 of the Westside Hornets’ 19 points to edge out the Waimea B&G, 19-16 in games played Saturday, Jan. 22.
Jayme Jacinto finished with six points to lead Waimea followed by Erin Connolly tipping in five points. Banach ended the day with seven points and Cox-Abuan finishing with four.
Waimea’s second outing of the day ended on a winning note, 30-23 over Lihu‘e with Jacinto again leading the westside girls on 10 points followed by Bristy Agu adding eight.
Kelsey Cadiente ended with 20 of Lihu‘e’s 23-point total with Sierra Mayer adding a pair.
Lynsi Nakamura and Jodie Das each finished in double digit scoring as Wailua overpowered Kalaheo, 34-10.
Jazzlyn Bradbury topped the Kalaheo scoring with eight points followed by Fiare Moe finishing with three. Nakamura finished with a dozen points with Das closing the books on ten points.
Janessa ended the day with 14 of the Pacers’ 24 point total in their 24-12 win over the Gee Angels who were led by Mahea Grace (six points), and Arrissa Thronas (four points).
