Newton Jellings “Kaeo” Booth of Wailua Homesteads, died Jan. 4, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 72.
Born Jan. 26, 1932, in Hawai‘i, he served in the United States Army and was a retired seaman with the maritime industry.
He is survived by his wife: Arlecia Booth of Wailua Homesteads; two daughters: Kathy “Pupu” (George) Catobus of Kahaluu and Jackie K. Booth of Kaneohe; two sons: Chris K. Booth of Kaneohe and Mike S.K. (Opuulani) Booth of Anahola; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church at 11 a.m. Services at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. Chun. Services will continue on O‘ahu on Sunday, Jan. 16, 1-3 p.m. at the Hawaii Maritime Center at Honolulu Harbor, Pier 7. Scattering will be outside Honolulu Harbor following the memorial service, which will be conducted by Kahu Richard K. Kamanu.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and suggests casual attire.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

David L. Gonzalez, 65, entered into rest on January 3, 2005, at the age of 65.
Born on Jan. 7, 1939, he was the loving husband of Vicki Gonzalez for 25 years. father to Terri Castro-Chavez (Carlos) of Stockton Calif., and hanai keiki Jude Huber of Moloa‘a and Damon Hauk of Maine and Kaua‘i, and step-father to Vanessa (David) Castro-Drivon of Stockton, Calif. and Toni Castro (Reba Gonzalez) of Renton, Wash.; loving grandfather to numerous grandchildren; brother of Molly Jones (Stan) of Penn Valley, Calif. and Bacilio Gonzalez of Stockton, Calif.
A native of Stockton, Calif., David and Vicki relocated to Kaua‘i, in 1984 where they resided for 17 years. While on Kaua‘i, David was an employee associate for the jewelry store, the Black Pearl at Coconut Marketplace, and retired after 12 years of dedicated service as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor at Serenity House, Poli-Lani and the Hina-Mauka Treatment Center, helping many addicts find freedom from active drug addiction.
David received an honorable discharge from the National Guard and was an active member and sponsor in Narcotics Anonymous (he would have celebrated 20 years clean on April 3) and was honored by the invitation to speak at the September 2005 World Convention of Narcotics Anonymous in Honolulu. He loved spending time with his wife, grandchildren, and his loving pets “Damon” and “Sabie”, watching sports and old movies, eating great foods, and his favorite past time boogie boarding.
David’s remains will be returned to Kaua‘i where he found healing, serenity, life-long friendships and his “Aloha Spirit.” A ceremony scattering the ashes will be held Friday, Jan. 14, at 5 p.m. at Wailua Beach (by the bridge). Please bring flowers to scatter and a surfboard or boogie board if you want. Following the scattering of the ashes there will be a Celebration of Life service at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center, (by Isenberg Park, corner of Eono & Noi Street, turn at AT&T-Cingular). Pupus will be served.
