Quite a big feat for the cowboy duo of Kalaheo’s Randy Brun and Kapa‘a’s Marcus Laymon, who earned the top spot in the 2004 United States Team Roping Championship (USRTC) on October 24 in the #6 Preliminary Average Division in Oklahoma City.
What made the distinction special was the fact that Brun and Laymon are the youngest first-time Hawai‘i winners ever to place in the event.
The two definitely made Hawai‘i proud by bringing home the gold.
Randy Brun is the son of Robert “Big Daddy” Brun and Lorna Brun of Kalaheo.
Marcus Laymon is the son of Bruce “Da Goose” Laymon and Norma Laymon of Kapa‘a.
The Kaua‘i Cowboys were #1 first high team call back. Winning the event on 31.64 on four steers and cashing in on $15,500, while winning a USTRC saddle.
These boys are no strangers to winning in the rodeo world.
Randy and Marcus are the champions of the Kaua‘i Keiki and High School Rodeo Association.
