LIHU‘E — It looked more like a high school team and a Pop Warner squad facing off at Vidinha Stadium last night.
KIF champion Kaua‘i High School dominated the game from start to finish, to trounce the MIL division II champion, Pac-3 Titans, 49-7.
Quarterback Kekoa Crowell had a magical game with five TD passes and one rushing TD.
With just two minutes off the clock, the Red Raiders struck with a 51-yard TD pass from quarterback Kekoa Crowell to wide receiver Kevin Cadiente.
The first play from scrimmage for Kaua‘i started the touchdown parade that marched on all the way through the end of the first half. Kicker Frank Speetjens nailed the first of his six PAT’s to give Kaua‘i a 7-0 advantage.
With 5:54 to go, the Crowell to Cadiente combination hooked up again on a 5-yard TD. Then just two minutes later, Crowell scrambled to the left for a TD to put Kaua‘i up 21-0. Ivan Kuapahi set up the TD by causing a Titan fumble and Brian Rodriguez made the recovery.
Sean Thompson recovered another Pac-3 fumble and Crowell connected with Lucky Andres on an 18-yard TD for the 28-0 lead. With a minute to go in the first, Rodriguez came up big again, this time on an interception, which gave the Red Raiders great field position. It was Jett Jasper’s turn to get a TD, as Crowell threw a 24-yard bomb to the right corner of the endzone. Jasper made a terrific catch, despite being harassed by a Titan defender.
Crowell continued his assault on the Titan defense, who couldn’t stop the senior quarterback all night. With 10:08 in the second, Crowell threw another 24-yard TD, this time to Duke Dasalia for the 42-0 lead.
Speetjens connected on his last PAT of the night, as Kainoa Lemke came in for PAT kicking duties. Kaua‘i’s defense stunned the Titans throughout the first and second half.
Pac-3 wasn’t able to get a first down until late in the second quarter. The Red Raiders found themselves in good hands with a 42-0 lead. The Titans were able to get on the board early in the third quarter with a TD run. Tye Perdido’s PAT made the score, 42-7. Kaua‘i’s Tron Rule got his first TD pass of the year to Chad Lopez with 1:43 to go in the third. Lemke booted the PAT for the 49-7 lead.
