What other 4-year old can say they were backed by a full orchestra, said Sarah Tochiki as a stage full of keiki violin players, many in preschool, joined the Kaua‘i Community College Symphony Orchestra on Sunday at the KCC Performing Arts Center. Especially heart warming was the performance of the Kaua‘i ‘Opio and Keiki Orchestra, known as KOKO, keiki violin players in the Tochiki-arranged Moon Song that teaches violin players the beginning steps of learning the violin.
What other 4-year old can say they were backed by a full orchestra, said Sarah Tochiki as a stage full of keiki violin players, many in preschool, joined the Kaua‘i Community College Symphony Orchestra on Sunday at the KCC Performing Arts Center. Especially heart warming was the performance of the Kaua‘i ‘Opio and Keiki Orchestra, known as KOKO, keiki violin players in the Tochiki-arranged Moon Song that teaches violin players the beginning steps of learning the violin.
Equally impressive, the keiki performers from the Boys &Girls Club, all three clubhouses, rendered a violin-inspired version of Hawai‘i Pono‘i in a Robert Burrell arrangement.
More youth performers are in action on Wednesday when the Kapa‘a Middle School presents its Choral and ‘Ukulele Concert (are you going, Greg Askew? These groups earned two gold rankings at the California music competition!) starting at 6 p.m. at the school’s Covered Court. Mary Lardizabal (she said people are welcome to come early and visit the craft vendors) will direct the choir and Loke Sasil will lead the ‘Ukulele Band during the free concert.
And more than 50 (Edwin Vea said 60, this time) crafters will be out on the lawn of The Beach House restaurant on Sunday, when The Beach House hosts its monthly craft fair across from the Lawai Beach Resort from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (the restaurant needs to prep for dinner service).
