Na Ali‘i boys bowlers jumped into the top spot after day one of the 2004 HHSAA/Billy Tees State Bowling Championships yesterday at Lihu‘e Lanes.
‘Aiea scored a 5494, followed by HBA at 5490, Maryknoll (5466), Waiakea (5400), and Mililani (5387) to make up the top five. Roosevelt’s Jarrett Mizo finished strong with a 1352 total after six rounds of play. Mizo’s top rounds included 258 in the third and 253 in the fifth round. Vaseem Anwar of Maryknoll finished second with six rounds in the 200s for a total of 1326. Pear City’s Jared Hayashi (1297), ‘Aiea’s Darin Villegas (1291), and Kapolei’s Shane Dias (1235) rounded out the top five boys bowlers. KIF champion Kaua‘i had a rough time on their home turf with no bowlers in the top 30. In fact, Kaua‘i’s top bowler isn’t from Kaua‘i High School, instead Waimea’s Kekoa Masuda (1141) picked up a 17th place finish after day one of competition. Curtis Matsumura was Kaua‘i High School’s top finisher with a 1094 total, good enough for 31st place. Garren Venzon’s 1059 was good enough for 47th place.
