Growing up on Kauai‘i’s eastside, 17-year-old Nathaniel Fisher has been surfing for the last ten years. Fisher is shy and quiet, but he’s aggressive and smooth in the water.
Always keen to his surroundings, he eats, sleeps, thinks, and dreams of surfing. When Fisher isn’t surfing, he is watching videos of surfing and calling his friends to talk about surfing. He’s lived with his family next to the Wailua river his whole life. Growing up, Fisher spent lots of time on the river with his family, which included activities like boating, fishing and wakeboarding.
The Wailua boy is in the water more than out hence the name “Fisher”. His dad runs a succesful kayak rental business in Wailua, with their home just up the hill close to scenic views and breathtaking waterfalls. Fisher manages to get some work in with his dad through the family business, but dreams of having a pro surfing career every day. He looks to Bruce and Andy Irons and sees a couple of heroes who at one time were just like him waiting for a break into the big time. Fisher has the abilities to go far in surfing, but like many other kids on Kaua‘i, he lacks the connections in the surf industry to get the privileges to travel more and get bigger sponsors. He has a couple of good sponsors that have recently hooked him up, such as Hoven Vision, and Pyzel Surfboards. Sponsors are a big help for kids like Fisher as they help with travel expenses and equipment. Fisher is in great shape and takes his health pretty seriously. He doesn’t party like most kids his age and has a healthy diet that he sticks to.
