Brendan McDaniels put up 16 points for the Waimea Fakers, who beat the Westside Hornets, 50-33 on Tuesday at Kalaheo Gym in boys 16-and-under action. Vincent Vea led the Hornets with 17. The Westside Klowns won a close one against the Southside Boys, 37-35 in a boys 19-and-under game. Akeem Allen led the Klowns with 16 and J. Lemke and J. Manuel each chipped in with nine points for Southside. Tab Matsumoto led Kalaheo’s charge with 18 points, to lead his team over the Unlimited Construction Boys, 47-27. Kaupili Akau scored eight for Unlimited.
The Breakaway got an early lead winning by 16 points, after the first period to win 62-20 over Wailua I in boys 14-and-under action on Tuesday at Kapa‘a Gym. Wailua scored 9 points to Lihu‘e’s 18 in the second period giving the Breakaway a 37-12 lead at the Half. The Breakaway kept up the fast tempo game in the second period and held Wailua to only 8 points in the second half. High Scorers were Pono Perez with 14 points and Justin Ramos with 11 for the Breakaway while Justin Tanicala led Wailua with 8 points and Niko Kimura added 7. Kapa‘a came out in a strong defense holding the hornets to only 2 points in the first period to take a 7-2 lead at the end of the first for the eventual win, 40-32 over the Westside Hornets. Clareson Torres got hot in the second scoring 9 points in the second period to close the gap to a 14-13 half in favor of the Warriors.
