“The Business of Coffee” is the theme of the Hawaii Coffee Association’s 9th Annual Conference and Trade Show, July 22-25 at the Ohana Keauhou Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona.
Marketing and the future of the coffee industry, quality control, customer service and consistency will be the topics for panel discussion. Speakers from the coffee industry, the University of Hawaii and the business sector, as well as a trade show with products relating to all aspects of the coffee industry are planned.
Paul Brewbaker, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President with the Bank of Hawaii, is the keynote speaker for the Friday evening dinner.
The Kaua‘i Coffee Company, Inc. is the largest producer of coffee in the state, generating sixty percent of statewide production. They produced 3.3 million pounds of coffee on 3,400 acres. Kaua‘i Coffee is a subsidiary of Alexander & Baldwin.
The Hawaii Coffee Association represents the coffee industry “from seed to cup” with members from across the state who are growers processors, roasters and retailers. It was formed in 1996 to provide a forum for discussion among industry members and an opportunity to exchange ideas and information on industry issues.
Growers reports from each coffee growing region in the state, research and pest updates from UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources and the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center, and a presentation on green coffee defects and how to prevent them are some of the topics related to the production of coffee.
