Ha‘ena Run this Saturday
Registration is currently being accepted for the Hanalei Canoe Club’s 24th Annual Ha‘ena to Hanalei 8-mile Run/Walk/Relay, and the 1-mile Keiki Fun Run that will take place this Saturday, June 5.
The Run/Walk starts at Ke‘e Beach on Kaua‘i’s Northshore with free transportation being provided from the Hanalei Park to the starting point.
Finish line is at the Hanalei Pier where finishers can cool down with a quick dip into Hanalei Bay before indulging in the pancake breakfast at the canoe club.
Runners not wanting to make the entire 8-mile run may team up with three others to make a relay out of the distance.
Children 14 and under are invited to register for the 1-mile fun run.
Entry fees for adults is $25 until race day when it goes up to $30. Relay teams pay $100 which goes up to $110 on race day, and children entry fees are $10. All participants receive a commemorative tee-shirt and the pancake breakfast.
Spectators may indulge in the pancake breakfast for $5.

Hanalei Hurricanes advance in tennis
The Hanalei Hurricanes (6.0 level) captained by Clyde Fujikawa joined the ranks of 24 teams from the Hawai‘i Pacific Section that have advanced to the sectional championship round of the largest adult recreational tennis league in the world by winning the USA League Tennis Hawai‘i Pacific Mixed Doubles Sectional Championships held this weekend at the Kiahuna Tennis Club and Po‘ipu Kai Tennis Club.
Other teams emerging victorious included the 96797 Team (7.0 level) from Ewa Beach, O‘ahu captained by Warlo Pasicaran, and Team Volki (8.0 level) of Honolulu captained by Roy Morigawara.
These teams will represent the USTA/Hawai‘i Pacific Section at the USA League Tennis 2004 Western Regionals scheduled for Nov. 18-21 in Bloomington, Minnesota.
Nordstrom to signs with BYUH
Lars Nordstrom recently signed to play water polo for the Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i this fall.
Nordstrom, a former First Team All-Monterey Bay League star while at San Benito High School in California, played one semester at the University of the Pacific before serving a two-year mission in Romania.
The left-handed transfer utility player from Hollister, California is 6’5-1/2″ and weighs 200 pounds.
BYUH Head Coach Aukai Ferguson said that Nordstrom “will provide our program with an extra punch on the lefty side of the pool.”
During his senior year, Nordstrom was named team MVP and was First Team All-League for three consecutive years.
