Anglet, Fra. — Kaua‘i native Keala Kennelly lost an anti-climactic final in washed-out conditions at the Roxy Pro France at La Madrague Beach Saturday.
Peruvian Sofia Mulanovich won her third consecutive contest, taking a huge lead in the Association of Surfing Professionals world ratings. Another Kaua‘i native, Rochelle Ballard, lost in the third round, behind the local knowledge of wildcard Caroline Sarran, and fell to second on the world-rankings list.
But the surfers battled more against Mother Nature than against each other in the final days of the event, with challenging six-foot conditions and a strong current forced competitors from an easy line-up spot.
