Kaua‘i High School junior Kirby Yates showed why he is one of the best baseball players in the state by hitting and pitching extremely well at the state championships level. The Red Raider knocked in all three runs for his team in the first game of the state tourney against Pearl City. Yates pitched a gem against Hilo in the second game, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 in six innings.
Joining Yates on the KIF baseball all-star squad are seven other Red Raiders. First base junior, Shannon Oketani, second base senior Titus Hori, third base senior Kelsey Furuike, shortstop senior Jake Oketani, Outfielder senior’s Sam Dias, Garen Itamura, and Sean Ogata.
Kapa‘a High senior Tyson Cremer made the team as the catcher and Waimea High sophomore Isaac Castillo was the utility player. Coach of the year honors went to Kaua‘i’s Hank Ibia.
