Sunday Feb. 8, Garden Isle Racing Association opened its 2004 season of NHRA championship drag racing.
In Destination Autoworks Pro ET racing, Randy Lawrence driving the Manny’s Repair 1970 Chevrolet Vega Wagon ran 10.220 on a 10.20 dial in at 130.81 MPH to beat Wayne Costa’s 9.269 ET, 9.250 dial in, 141.96 MPH performance in the D & W Services 1968 Chevrolet Camaro.
In the King Auto Center Super Street ET opener, Craig Fujimoto crossed the finish line first by 4.4 feet in his 1990 Chevy pickup with an 11.295 ET on an 11.220 dial in beating Jason Alfiler’s 12.985 ET, 12.890 dial in his 1985 Toyota MR2.
In Street ET, Marc Perales driving the Destination Autoworks 2004 Dodge Hemi Ram 1500 pickup placed first with a 16.001 ET on a 15.90 dial in beating Ron Valencia’s 15.669 ET, 15.50 dial in driving his 2000 Dodge Dakota pick up, also sponsored by Destination Autoworks.
A Kauai Raceway Park record for Quickest Super Street ET was set by J. R. Smith driving his Suzuki 1300 cc Hayabusa to a 9.940 ET.
NHRA championship drag racing will return to Kauai Raceway Park in March.
