County of Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau officials again Friday closed beaches on the North Shore of the island, due to high surf.
Because of surf forecasts, beaches from Polihale State Park to Hanalei Bay closed yesterday were likely to remain closed today, Saturday, Nov. 29, said Kalani Vierra of the Kaua‘i Fire Department Ocean Safety Bureau.
He was also advising caution for those considering going into the water at Eastside beaches, as the forecast projected the large swell to come in toward east-facing shores as well.
“It’s supposed to be bigger” today, said Vierra, adding that lifeguards and other ocean-safety professionals were going to continue advising those who want to go into the ocean to grab the snorkeling gear and head for the South Shore or Salt Pond Beach Park in Hanapepe.
All beaches between Hanalei and Polihale were closed yesterday, as surf reached heights of 25 to 30 feet, with some higher sets.
With larger waves today, those northern beaches were likely to remain closed, he added.
