Even though the KIF volleyball season is more than a month away, fans of the sport can get their fix beginning on Thursday at the Girls Volleyball High School Challenge.
The event will be held at Kaua‘i High School and will feature eight clubs from the across the state competing in a round-robin tournament during opening round play on Thursday and Friday.
The clubs entered in the event are Roosevelt, Leilehua, Kapa‘a, Waimea, Kaua‘i, Hilo, Pearl City and Waiakea.
The tourney is sponsored by Aston Hotels and Resorts and Bank of Hawaii Insurance Services.
While Thursday is the opening day of the event, action will continue through Saturday with the continuation of elimination matches.
The championship match will take place at around 2:15 p.m. with the third-place game running at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
At 7 p.m. on Saturday night, there will be an awards banquet at War Memorial Convention Center.
But before any awards can be given out, these eight clubs have plenty of work to do on the courts.
The games will be played on two courts beginning on Thursday.
On Court 1, Roosevelt faces off against Leilehua at 1 p.m. while Hilo and Pearl City face off on Court 2 at 1 p.m.
Kapa‘a and Waimea test one another at 2 p.m. on Court 1 on Thursday while Pearl City faces Kaua‘i on Court 2 at 2 p.m.
In other Thursday action on Court 1, Waimea plays Leilehua at 3 p.m., Kapa‘a faces Roosevelt at 4 p.m. and then Leilehua at 5 p.m. and Waimea plays Roosevelt at 6 p.m.
On Court 2 on Thursday, Hilo tests Kaua‘i at 3 p.m., the Red Raiders then play Waiakea at 5 p.m., and then Kapa‘a at 7 p.m. Waimea plays in Thursday evening’s final game on Court 2 against Waiakea at 8 p.m.
On Friday on Court 1, Kaua‘i plays Roosevelt at 11 a.m. before testing Leilehua at 2 p.m.
On Court 2, Kapa‘a plays Waiakea at 9 a.m. before Waimea and Kaua‘i battle at 10 a.m., the warriors then face Pearl City at 11 a.m. before the Menehune face Hilo at noon. Kapa‘a then plays Hilo at 1 p.m. before Waimea plays in the final round-robin game on Court 2 on Friday against Pearl City at 2 p.m.
The elimination matches begin on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
