Takenouchi fires an 80 at tourney
The 55th USGA Girls’ Junior Qualifier at the Wailua Golf Course was held on Thursday.
Britney Choy from Honolulu and Lisa Kajihara from Maui earned medalist honors shooting a two over par 75.
This year the qualifiers will be playing the Championship at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, Conn.
The course played firm and fast at a length of 6,279 yards, par 71.
The 18 participants came from all over the state of qualify for the 3 spots. The golf course was in excellent condition and the girls’ played the golf course at 6,200 yards par 73. Ed Okamoto, Golf Course Administrator kept the scores at bay with tough hole locations and fast greens.
Kauai’s Shelcie Takenouchi shot a 80 for 2nd alternate.
Lindsay Hong (Honolulu) shot a 78 and secured the 3rd spot. Whitney Ueno (Hilo) shot a 79 for 1st alternate.

Magic 1 beat Kanu
KALAHEO — Christina Banach scored 15 points to pave the Magic 1 to a 35-24 win over Kanu in a boys 10 and under community basketball contest at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center on Saturday.
Chancen Bateman scored 10 for Kanu.
Maluhia States poured in 18 points in helping the Kapaa Big “D” beat the Westside Hornets 22-21. Charlyn Ortiz scored 10 for the Hornets.
The Lihue Sparks outgunned the Magic 2 27-14 with Teal Basquez scoring six points for the Sparks and Makana Ladesma totaling 10 for the Magic 2.
In a boys 17 and under game, the Lihue Kings edged the Westsiders 37-32 with Lance Okasaki scoring 11 points for the Kings and Jordan Shea adding 13 for the Westsiders.
