Tachiko Okinishi
Tachiko Okinishi of Hanapepe Heights, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 14, 2003 at the age of 86.
Born in Kekaha, on May 2, 1917, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by sons, Robin (Eva) Okinishi of El Cerrito, Calif., and Jan Okinishi of Lakewood, Calif.; daughters, Madge (Kiyoshi) Kanno of Orange, Calif., and Sylvia (Howard) Humphreys of Ewa Beach, Oahu; brother, Gerald T. Kuramoto of Honolulu, Oahu, and 6 grandchildren.
Private services were held. Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Hisashi Sugawara
Hisashi “Hy” Sugawara of Lihue, died in Honolulu on June 15, 2003 at the age of 81.
Born in Parker, Idaho on July 5, 1921, he was the semi-retired owner and director of Ace Hy International.
He is survived by his wife, Hoshi Sugawara of Lihue; son, Alfred Sugawara of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter, Sandy Sugawara (Louis Levy), of Potomac, Maryland; brothers, Ken (Jane) Sugawara of North Carolina, Joe (Chiz) Sugawara of Hilo, Bill Sugawara of Chicago and 6 grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 21, from 3 p.m. at the Lihue Christian Church, 2943 Kress St. where services will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Virginia Siewertsen
Virginia Siewertsen of Lihue, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, Long Term Unit on June 16, 2003, at the age of 91.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on Nov. 18, 1911, she was a commercial artist and worked for Marshall Field Department Stores. She graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago, she was a Charter Member National Tropical Botanical Garden and was a volunteer for 35 years. A longtime volunteer at the Kauai Museum she was well known for her Water Colors of Kauai and won many awards. She owned, operated and showed Cocker Spaniels.
She is survived by two nephews, Ken Johnson of Florida and Bill Siewertsen of Connecticut; three nieces, Robin Johnson of Florida, Ruth Erickson of New York, and Diane Siewertsen of Texas.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary where services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
