Of the 45 people Gov. Linda Lingle recently appointed to various state boards and commissions, just two are from Kaua’i.
MaBel Ferreiro-Fujiuchi, executive director of Kaua’i Economic Opportunity, Inc. (KEO), was appointed to the Hawai’i Commission for National and Community Service.
Dr. Lucy Miller was named to the Disability and Communications Access Board.
The appointments were to fill vacant positions, or replace current members whose terms are expiring, Lingle said.
More Kaua’i people will be appointed to some of the state’s more than 135 boards and commissions in the coming weeks, said Laurie Yoshida, Lingle’s Kaua’i representative.
Since taking office in December, Lingle has actively encouraged residents around the state to apply to serve on boards or commissions.
Applicants are screened and interviewed by the administration, and Lingle personally interviews some candidates for key positions.
The Office of the Governor oversees more than 135 boards and commissions established by the state constitution, state statutes or executive orders.
Boards and commissions are designed to get input from a broad cross section of Hawai’i residents.
