Kauaians at war

Ron Wiley of KONG Radio Group has been collecting since the war began earlier this month, via e-mail and telephone, names of people with Kaua’i ties fighting in Iraq, Kuwait, or the Persian Gulf.

People have also been calling, e-mailing or visiting The Garden Island with information about their loved ones.

Here is the latest list in alphabetical order:

  1. Travis Ancheta, aboard the USS Tarawa;
  2. Sgt. Benji Antonio;
  3. Isaac Antonio, U.S. Navy;
  4. Keola Baclayon, U.S. Air Force, stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., whose B2 (stealth) bomber units are in the skies over Iraq; he attended Kaua’i High and graduated from Kamehameha Schools;
  5. Keoki Baclayon, U.S. Marines, Kaua’i High School graduate; both Baclayons lived on Kaua’i, and have relatives in Kilauea;
  6. Staff Sgt. Garrick J. Baliaris, Jr., U.S. Air Force, born on Kaua’i and a one-time resident of Anahola, now stationed out of Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., is one of the operators aboard the B2 bomber. His Kaua’i aunties, Leona Sa and Lavern Sa, wanted him and others to know that they love him dearly, and that their thoughts and prayers are with him;
