Wilcox Elementary School fire under investigation

Wilcox Elementary School administrators looked over damage to a section of the school gutted Tuesday night by a fire.

Despite the damage, school officials said the elementary school will reopen on Monday as scheduled following the school’s spring break.

Most of the west wing of the school’s administrative building were damaged by the fire, and adminstrators are hoping to salvage records and materials stored in the room.

Kaua’i Fire Inspectors Yee and Bukoski, left, and Kauai Police Department officer Kaleo Perez, surveyed the damage on Wednesday morning, as Wilcox Elementary vice-principal Nathan Aiwohi looks in from a doorway.

The blaze was reported at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night and firefighters from the Lihue station of the Kauai Fire Department had the fire under control shortly after 9 p.m.
