The Kauai Police Department has received several calls from elderly residents who have been called by people saying the represent the magazine Readers Digest. The residents are told that have won a prize and are asked to send money to the caller in order to claim the prize.
Assistant Chief Gordon Isoda advises against sending money as a condition for receiving a prize. “We’re checking with Readers Digest on this, but in general, we think the public should be highly suspect of these calls,” said Isoda.
Anyone who receives such a call and has questions, should call KPD patrol at 241-6711.
