Dennis K. Sato of Benton City, WA died on June 1, 2002 at the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle at the age of 55.
Born on July 26, 1946 in Koloa and raised in Lawai, he was a senior chemical technologist at the U.S. Department of Energy Hanford Site in eastern Washington. He was a 1964 graduate of Kauai High School and also a graduate of Columbia Basin College.
He is survived by his wife, Lori of Benton City; son, Brendon (Heidi) of Tea, SD; daughter, Allison also of Benton City; mother, Dorothy Sato of Waimea; brother, Lynn M. (Nancy) Sato of Lawa’i, and sister, Dr. Karen (Kenneth) Godwin of Charlotte, NC>
A memorial service was held at his favorite fishing spot, Fishook Park on the Snake River, on June 7. There will also be a memorial service at the West Kauai Hongwanji Mission Hanapepe Temple on July 4, at 9 a.m.

Elizabeth Bukoski Tavares, of Kalaheo, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 7, 2002 at the age of 81.
Born in Koloa, Kaua’i on April 21, 1921, she was a Custodial Supervisor with the State of Hawai’i, Airport Division.
She is survived by two sons, Steven J. (Isabelle) Tavares of Kalaheo, Kaua’i and Marvin M. Tavares of Boise Idaho; daughter, Mary Jane (Cecil) Bennett of Sacramento, CA; two brothers, Fredrick (Helen) Bukoski and Manuel (Margaret) Bukoski both of Lawa’i, Kaua’i; sister, Pauline Silva of Kalaheo, Kaua’i; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, at the Holy Cross Catholic church; service officiated by father Christopher Keahi will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Florence Dotario Alfonso
Florence Dotario Alfonso of Kalaheo, Kaua’i, died at her residence on June 8, 2002, at the age of 87.
Born in Kalopa, Hawai’i, on June 2, 1915, she was a pantry worker for Kauai Surf Hotel.
She is survived by five sons: Lewis (Josephine) Andrade; Rio Dotario; Donald (Masako) Dotario; Stanley Dotario; Ronnie (Carolyn) Dotario; one daughter: Joan (Joseph) Souza; 2 caregivers (granddaughters): Leah (Michael) Scovel and Mona Dotario; two sisters: Victoria Silva of Hawai’i and Gloria (Manuel) Rezentes of Hawai’i; three brothers: William Alfonso of Hawai’i, George (Margaret) Alfonso of Washington, and Alfred Alfonso Sr. of Nevada; 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 15, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from noon to 12:45 p.m. Where services will be celebrated at 1 p.m. by Father Keahi. Burial to follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Manzano Billwayen
Manzano Billwayen of Kilauea, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 81.
A laborer, he was born June 6, 1921, in the Philippines.
He is survived by his wife: Leonarda Billwayen of Kilauea; one son: Mark Billwayen of Kilauea; one brother-in-law: Hipolito (Florie) Razos of Kilauea; one sister-in-law: Rosita Razos of Kilauea; father and mother-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Razos of Kilauea; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, June 15, at St. Sylvester’s Church in Kilauea from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Bruce. Burial to follow at Kilauea Public Cemetery.
