The second round of the Senior Softball League began Saturday at Eleele Field, and the First Round champion Rookies got off to a similarly successful start.
The Rookies topped West Kauai 8-5, with Archi Fontanilla picking up the win and Frank Bukoski recording a loss.
Hank Nishikawa led the Rookies with three hits, and pairing hits were Nellie Mendonca, Ray Espino, Wally Sonoda and Dickie Sialana.
Only Bukoski was able to get two hits for West Kauai; Pinch hitter Paul Parangao had a double.
In game two, Joe Brun threw a four hitter and gave up just two runs in the Lihue A’s 20-2 drubbing over Kawaihau. Teddy Daligdig got the loss.
Dwight Fujii and Glenn Akina had five hits and a homer each; Tono Hiranaka had four hits and Joe Munachika had three hits.
For Kawaihau: Daligdig, Don Buro, Ted Tamashiro and Terry Pawtohan each had one hit.
In the final game at Eleele Field, the K-Makules topped East Kauai 14-6.
Dado Paiste picked up the win and helped himself at the plate with a homerun on two hits. Losing pitcher Walter Salua gave up three hits to Doric Remata and two each to Ben Pescador, Pancho DeCosta and Lefty Ramata.
For East Kauai, Alex Youn socked a homer on a 3-3 day, and Juan Ipac had three hits.
This Saturday’s games will be played at Kaumakani Field, first game starting at 9:15 a.m. The Rookies (1-0) will take on the K-Makules (1-0), the Lihue A’s (1-0) meets West Kauai (0-1), and East Kauai (0-1) faces Kawaihau (0-1).
