Beatrice E. Galante died March 20, 2002, at West Kauai Medical Center at the age of 74.
Born May 27, 1928 in Nashua, New Hampshire, she had been a Kaua’i resident since 1995 and had previously lived in Lompoc, Calif.
She is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters. Joe Galante of Kapaa, Nick Galante of Omao, William Bellefleur of Florida, Amanda White of California, and Clara Ayotte of New Hampshire. She also has 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Beatrice has one surviving brother Leo Mayo of Nashua, New Hampshire.
Burial at Koloa Cemetery was private. Friends are invited to a memorial service at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Koloa on Saturday, May 4, at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.
Violet Brandt
Violet Rodrigues Brandt of Honolulu, O’ahu, died April 27, 2002, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
A public school teacher, she was born in Kapa’a.
She is survived by one daughter: Viola (Thomas) Atou of O’ahu; one brother: Joseph Rodrigues of Kapa’a; one sister; Julie R. Lizama of Kapa’a; one granddaughter: Lila (Tim) Loos of O’ahu; one grandson: Thomas (Tammy) Atou of O’ahu; two great granddaughters, Tina Loos and Taylor-Anne Atou; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church from 9 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Virginia Lydgate
Virginia Smith Lydgate of Laguna Hills, CA, died on April 5, 2002, at the age of 93.
A graduate of Bryn Mawr, she married William A. “Peacher” Lydgate, the youngest of four sons of the Rev. John M. Lydgate of Kaua’i. She was an accomplished writer and artist, and published four books of poetry in later life.
She is survived by two children, Sarah Lydgate of New York City, and John Lydgate of Kapa’a; as well as three grandsons, Chris of Portland OR; William of Arcata, CA; and Kai of Kapa’a.
A service of remembrance will be held at the Columbarium at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lihue, in late May.
Stephen Orsatelli
Stephen Anthony Orsatelli, of Lawa’i, Kaua’i, died on April 26, 2002, at Kuakini Hospital on O’ahu at the age of 56.
Stephen is survived by Celeste Tabac and Ky Sanchez; granddaughter Maluhia Sanchez, all of Kamuela, Hawai’i; five sisters: Virginia Spence, Yvonne Kealoha, Mary Ephan, Lois Orsatelli and Donna Miller; his companion, Violeta Gabai; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 4, 11 a.m., at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo with Mass to follow at noon. Cremation burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Nuuanu Mortuary.
Beatrice Antalan
Beatrice Ortiz Antalan of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died April 25, 2002, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 83.
The manager of a senior center, she was born June 1, 1917, in Hawai’i.
She is survived by four sisters: Constance Aquino of Waimea, Feliza Quizon of Omao, Julia Smith of Waianae, and Aurora Lo of O’ahu; and seven brothers: Lucas Ortiz of ‘Ele’ele, Eduardo Malapit of Po’ipu, William Malapit of Maui, Mark Malapit of Kalhaeo, Earl Malapit of Po’ipu and Manuel Malapit of California; nieces, nephews adn cousins.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, May 2, at St. Raphael’s Chruch in Koloa from 2 pm.. to 2:45 p.m. where services will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Burial to follow at Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.

Rachel Pilani Kulanikea Bright of Aiea, died April 21, 2002, at her home at the age of 81.
She is survived by sons John (Feona) Kahoohanohano of Nanakuli, Clifford (Irene) Kahoohanohano, Wailuku, Charlie (Eileen) Bright, Kahaluu, Oliver (Gail) Bright, Jr., Nanakuli; daughters: Nancy (Richard) Barraclough, of Kona; Emily (Paul) Arnold of South Carolina, Hattie (Albert) Perkins of Kaneohe, Vicklynn (Ernest) Gomes of Wailuku, Ana (Joseph) Kamaka of Wailuku,; brothers: Wallace Kupihea of Kauai, Henry (Mona) Kupihea of Kauai, George Dwight Kupihea of Honolulu; sisters; Mary Maunakea of Texas, Elaine Watson of Kauai, Grace Fitzgerald of Kauai, Dorothy Goo of Kailua, Deborah Muff of Florida, Yolanda Rosa of Kauai, Kelani Torres of Kauai; 20 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Churcho f Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-Aiea Ward, 99-641 Pohue Rd., Halawa. Service will begin at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 9 a.m. at Maui Memorial Park, Wailuku, Maui.
