The Rookies took a 9-8 win over West Kaua’i in the first game played at Kaumakani Field on Saturday.
Archi Fontanilla notched his fifth win and Joe Silva took his third loss.
Dickie Sialana hit a two-run homer on three hits for the Rookies. Also with three hits were Walter Souza and Ray Espino. Frank Bukoski, who notched three hits, was the only West Kaua’i batter to get more than one hit.
In the second game, the K-Makules scored seven runs in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th inning and went on to douse East Kaua’i 28-5.
“Dado” Paiste, who notched his first win, helped himself at the plate with four hits. Doric Remata banged two home runs on five hits; Guy Ruiz had two homers on four hits, which upped his hitting streak to 11 straight. “Lefty” Remata notched a solo homer, John Tabanair went 5-5 and Big Ben Pescador had four hits.
East Kaua’i’s Alex Youn knocked his fourth homer of the season on two hits, and all pairing hits were Ray SamFong, Walter Silva, Wayne Soma and Juan Ipac. Ronnie Holt, who started for East Kauai on the mound, got his second loss.
Lihue A’s Joe Brun held Kawaihau to one run on two hits and also got three hits of his own to take a 6-1 win.
Teddy Daligdig got his fourth loss.
All pairing hits for the “A’s were Dwight Fujii, Joe Munachika, Yuki Shigeta and Jon Ochoco.
Kawaihau’s two hits were from Steve Fujii and Teddy Daligdig.
Next game will be on April 6 at Waimea with the K-Makules hosting the Rookies in the 9:15 a.m. opener. Kawaihau will play East Kauai, West Kauai takes on the Lihue “A’s”.
