Michie Dobashi Miyoshi
Michie Dobashi Miyoshi of Albuquerque, NM and formerly of Kaua’i, died Dec. 5, 2001, in Albuquerque, N.M. at the age of 88.
Born Nov. 16, 1913, in Lihu’e, Kaua’i, she had many talents, including a green thumb, gift for flower arranging and singing talent.
Preceded in death by her husband, Isamu and son, Gerald, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Geri, daughter-in-law, Sandi, five granddaughters; three great grandsons; brother Masaharu and family, sister Katherine Shinohara and family and numerous nephews and nieces, as well as special Albuquerque friend, Janice Ouchi.
Michie’s vivaciousness and dedication were a gift to her cherished Kaua’i community, which she and her late husband Isamu devoted themselves immeasurably to for over 50 years and to the Lihu’e Hongwanji Mission.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date on Kaua’i. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Lihu’e Hongwanji Mission, P.O. Box 1248, Lihu’e, HI 96766
Mark Heinzelman
Mark Douglas Heinzelman of San Francisco, CA, on Nov. 18, 2001 at Los Angeles, CA, at the age of 43.
Born in Teaneck, NJ on July 20, 1958, He worked at the Hyatt Hotels and Resorts.
He is survived by his parents: Violet and Edward Heinzelman of Lebanon, NJ; wife: Mayra Heinzelman of San Francisco, CA; son: Mark Heinzelman Jr., of San Francisco, CA; two brothers: Glen Heinzelman of GA., Bert Heinzelman of Nevada City, CA; one sister: Alice Heinzelman of Lebanon, NJ. He is preceded in death by Betty and Edward Heinzelman, grandmother and grandfather; Alice and Bert Henez, grandmother and grandfather.
Services were held on Nov. 24, at the Chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, Nevada City, CA. Burial at Sierra Memorial Lawn, Nevada City, CA.
Arrangements were handled by Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, Inc.
Mildred C. Watanabe
Mildred C. Watanabe of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 9, 2001, at the age of 84.
Born in ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i on Mar. 18, 1917, she was a retired waitress with Tomi’s Restaurant in Lihu’e.
She is survived by sons, Richard (Marie) Watanabe of Honolulu, O’ahu and Wesley Watanabe of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; daughter, Janet Watanabe of Los Angeles, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother-in-law, Kumao Higashi of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; sister-in-law, Mitsue Tamekaze of Kalaheo, Kaua’i; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at noon on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service officiated by Rev. Motoyoshi will begin at 1 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Helen Smock
Helen Smock of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Nov. 14, 2001 at the age of 83.
Born in Oklahoma, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her sister: Dorothy Lee Gay of Kapa’a and Caregiver Linda Herceg of Kapa’a.
Interment with her loving husband of 50 years will be done at Rose Hills in California.
Arrangement are being handled by Borthwick Kaua’i Mortuary.
