Leslie Annette Maka passed away on Nov. 10, 2001 at her residence in Kilauea at the age of 49. She was born in Riverside County, CA.
She is survived by her two daughters: Kyra (Randy) Maka and Liana (Kolo) Maka, 1 granddaughter: Kahelelani Maka-Adric. Mother: Ruth (Al) Raggozino of Petaluma, CA.; Sisters: Laura (Wayne) Rathe of Redding, CA. & Lynda Martello of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by her ex-husband: Murphy (Ann Marie) Maka; Mother-in-law: Rebecca Kapoli Maka, Brother-in-law: Sherman Maka, Jacob Maka & Fetta Maka. Sisters-in-law: Henrietta Bond and Jolly-Ann (David) Mahuiki-Barradas and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Nov. 17, at Waioli Hui’ia Church in Hanalei. Visitation from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. Scattering of ashes to follow at Hanalei Pier. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be sent to the Kaua’i Hospice or American Cancer Society.
Simeon Cadavona
Simeon Antonio Cadavona of Honolulu, formerly of Lihu’e, died Nov. 2, 2001, at the age of 98.
Born on Feb. 3, 1903, he was a cane cutter and cane hauler for Lihu’e Plantation for 21 years and also a highlight crane operator for Amfac Lumber Yard department of Honolulu for 22 years.
He is survived by daughter, Esperanza C. (Peter Medina) Bareng; sons, Leonard A. (Teresita Acoba), Fausto A. (Angela Pilar), John A. (Janet Ponce) Cadavona; sisters, Leoncia Acoba and Maria Salvador of Kaua’i; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m to 3 p.m. with service at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at Borthwick Mortuary on O’ahu Monday, Nov. 19, at St. Anthony Church in Kalihi, visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial at 11 a.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Natsuyo Takemoto
Natsuyo Takemoto of Koloa, Kaua’i, died on Nov. 6, 2001 at St. Francis Medical Center at the age of 97.
Born in Japan, on Nov. 12, 1903.
She is survived by her son: Nelson (Sandra) Takemoto of Koloa, Kaua’i, daughters: Mary Oride of Hanapepe, Kaua’i, Peggy A. (Sam) Miyasato, Betty Takemoto, Rosemary (Clifford) Nishimura; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Services were private.
Arrangements were held by Hosoi Garden Mortuary.
Kiyoto Uegawa
Kiyoto Uegawa of Kapa’a, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Nov. 10, 2001, at the age of 91.
Born in Wailua, Kaua’i on May 26, 1910, he was a Supervisor with Hawaiian Canneries for 32 years and retired as a Sprinkler Operator with Lihu’e Sugar Plantation after 9 years.
He is survived by wife, Shizuno of Kapa’a, Kaua’i; sons, Eugene (Merle) Uegawa of Wailua Homesteads, Kaua’i and Lincoln (B.J.) Uegawa of Kapa’a, Kaua’i; daughters, Jane (Henry) Kanada of Kaneohe, O’ahu, Amy (Roy) Kimura of Pearl City, O’ahu, Katy Uegawa of Mililani, O’ahu and Irene (Rudy) Lekarczyk of Laguna Hills, CA; nine grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, at the Kapa’a Hongwanji Mission; service officiated by Rev. Takata will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
