Some of the world’s leading experts in development of surveillance instruments and computer-guided weaponry will be on Kaua’i from this Tuesday, Nov. 13, for an international workshop and conference.
The International Test & Evaluation (ITEA) Kaua’i Training, Test Evaluation (TT&E) workshop is at the Sheraton Kaua’i Resort in Po’ipu, running through Thursday, Nov. 15, with optional weekend events for attendees through Saturday, Nov. 17.
The experts assembling are responsible for testing and evaluating the coming generation of high-technology surveillance systems and arsenals, and will be reviewing the latest innovations and developments in the arena of national defense both at home and abroad.
Lee Frame, deputy director for operational and test evaluation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, is the keynote speaker. Dr. John Craven, ocean scientist, author of “The Silent War” and former chief scientist for the U.S. Navy Special Projects Office, is also scheduled to speak.
“Despite the fallout of September 11, the ITEA Mid-Pacific chapter has worked hard to keep this ambitious agenda intact,” said Stu Burley, ITEA’s Mid-Pacific chapter president and a Kalaheo resident who spent most of his Kaua’i career in high-tech fields at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands.
“I would like to encourage attendance, as these are uncommon opportunities to mingle and meet with some really heavy hitters in the ITEA organization and T&E and training communities, and we’ve seen over many years that the best workshops are those where visitors can meet with folks who work at the host organization,” said Dave Nekomoto, ITEA Mid-Pacific workshop chairman.
The Kaua’i Economic Development Board is sponsoring a lu’au on Wednesday, Nov. 14, and Digital Systems Resources (DSR), High Technology Solutions (HTS), ITT Industries Systems Division, Oceanit, Scientific Applications International Corporation (SAIC), Solypsis and Textron are all workshop sponsors.
Some proceeds from the conference will go to Kaua’i Community College for scholarships for students pursuing high-technology careers.
