Marriott International (NYSE: MAR) recently appointed Simon Jongert as general manager of the Kaua’i Marriott Resort & Beach Club.
He brings 25 years of hospitality industry experience. The resort features 356 hotel rooms and 232 vacation ownership villas.
Jongert replaces Stan Brown, who is the current Marriott International vice president of the Pacific Islands area. In his new position, Jongert is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of this oceanfront property.
“This 51-acre resort is truly a Hawaiian paradise, reflecting the unique culture and aloha hospitality,” he said.
Jongert relocated to Kaua’i from Kuala Lumpur, where he served as opening general manager of the JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur and vice president, Southeast Asia & Australia region.
In that regional position, he handled the overall responsibility for all of Marriott’s brands in this region: India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia, for the past six years.
Jongert began his Marriott career in 1975 as director of catering at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel, followed by several operational management positions in the United States, including food and beverage director of Rancho Los Palmas Resort, regional food and beverage director for the Western region, and general manager of the Princeton Marriott Hotel.
In 1991, he returned to Amsterdam Marriott Hotel as general manager for four years.
Jongert, a native of Amsterdam, is a graduate of the Hospitality Management School in The Netherlands.
