Torao Shintani of Waimea, Kaua’i, died at Kaua’i Care Center on Oct. 23, 2001, at the age of 98.
Born in Hiroshima, Japan, on Dec. 20, 1902, he was a retired parts manager with Waimea Garage.
He is survived by three daughters: Kay Cuneo of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; Mildred (Bill) Tokushige of Honolulu, O’ahu; Jean (Ernie) Tsuchida of Huntington Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Sadao (Sue) Shintani; sister, Yoshiko Kawamura of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; numerous nieces, nephews.
Services were private. Family requests no flowers and no koden please.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Brent Kerr
Brent Alexander Kerr of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 26, 2001, at the age of 44.
A maintenanceman, he was born Sept. 12, 1957, in California.
He is survived by his parents: Charles and Helen Kerr of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother: Allen Kerr and one nephew: Gavin Kerr.
Private services will be held. Arrangements were handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Ekela Shintani
Ekela Hali ‘Imaile Shintani of Kekaha, Kaua’i, died Oct. 26, 2001, at Queen’s Medical Center at the age of 62.
An employee of Ni’ihau School of Kekaha and Ni’ihau shells lei maker, he was also a member of Halau Haloa, Mana Leo, and Keli’iokamalu Hale Pule.
He is survived by two daughters: Amy (Ricky) Kahale and Gloria Shintani; two sisters: Alina (Malaki) Kanahele and Emela Shintani; one sister-in-law: Mercy Hoonani Shintani; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary chapel in Koloa from 9 a.m. with services to be celebrated at 11 a.m. and burial to follow at Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery.
Aloha attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
