Mildred Texeira
Mildred (Millie) Texeira of Puhi, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 26, 2001, at the age of 69.
Preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph “Sonny” Texeira Jr., Millie was a professional Tahitian and hula dancer (Tani of Hawai’i). She entertained at the Club Jetty and throughout the state of Hawai’i to thousands of visitors and islanders in the early sixties.
She is survived by sons, Lawrence “Larry” (Virginia) Texeira, Timothy (Diane) Texeira; daughters, Valerie (Stan) Sekimoto, Raynette Texeira and hanai daughters Teresa and Rayna Pia; father, John F. Lopes, brothers; John (Maryann) G. Lopes, Nelson (Lana) Lopes and sister, Hazel Kosuga; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Services will be at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, Nov. 6, with visitation at 9 a.m.m followed by Mass at 11 a.m. and burial at noon at the Immculate Conception cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Charles ‘Charlie’ McDonald III
Charles “Charlie” Wesley McDonald III, of Haena, Kaua’i, died on Oct. 14, 2001, on the Northshore of Kaua’i, at the age of 54. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on April 22, 1947.
He was a Hawaiian Stream Researcher for the University of Hawai’i, an Alaskan fisherman, a motorcycle mechanic and racer. He volunteered for many community projects.
He is preceded in death by his mother: Elizabeth Bronson McDonald. He is survived by his father: Dr. Charles W. and Jean McDonald II, of Jacksonville, Florida; wife: JoAnn Finley McDonald of Kilauea; one sister: Elizabeth (Macky) Head of Jacksonville Florida; In-laws: Joseph & Anna Finley of Melbourne Beach, Florida.;two brother-in-laws: Joe Finley of Kilauea, and David Finley of Sonoma, CA; one sister-in-law: Susan Burrell Finley of Melbourne Beach, Florida.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, Nov. 5, at at high noon at Limahuli Garden, Haena. For more info, call Limahuli Gardens at 826-1053. A handful of flowers is suggested.
Tetu Kameenui
A special memorial commemoration is being planned by students of Hei Ata Polynesian Company in honor of Tahitian Kumu Tetu Kameenui, who died recently at his home.
All of his students and former students are invited to take part in the commemoration. Tahitian practice will be held Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. at Lydgate Park. The date of his services will be announced at a later date.
“Help us celebrate Uncle Tetu the way he would want to be remembered,” organizers of the event said.
