With an ear on public sentiment, proponents of two construction projects in Koloa have backed away from their plans.
At a Kaua’i County Planning Commission meeting Tuesday, Dr. Kerry and Michelle Dillberg, who had proposed building a new chiropractic medical building along the Koloa bypass road, withdrew their application.
The application had drawn criticism from people who were believed only residential land-uses would take place on the road.
“We have heard the concerns that have been voiced by the community, and we would like some time to address these concerns,” the Dillbergs said in a letter to the commission. “We will reapply when it is appropriate.”
Also withdrawing its application for permits to improve the Koloa Landing area for diving and other recreational and commercial uses was Greg Winston and Chris Norman, doing business as Koloa Landing Partners.
“We are seeking the help of members of the dive community as well as the general public as to what would be the most beneficial use of the Koloa Landing area,” Norman wrote to the commission. “We are looking into the feasibility of the creation of a community group to manage this resource.”
