The University of Hawai’i-Manoa has begun recruiting students for nursing courses that will be taught electronically at Kaua’i Community College beginning next year.
Students in the “distance education” nursing program will study for a bachelor of science degree via UH’s HITS (Hawai’i Interactive Television System) and the Internet.
A group information meeting via HITS is scheduled for Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at KCC’s Learning Resource Center to provide information on the degree, requirements and timeline.
The program is expected to begin in fall 2002 and end two years later. UH-Manoa School of Nursing officials said interested individuals should meet now with nursing academic advisors to prepare for prequisites and application. Appointments with Kate Thompson, a advisor who will visit KCC Aug. 10, can be arranged by calling 245-8330.
The part-time program will include two courses per semester, including summers, thus allowing registered nurses to work and take courses at the same time, officials said. Prospective students will have through summer 2002 to complete lower-division prerequisites.
The programs have been received national accreditation.
