Mercedes Sagucio
Mercedes Sagucio of Kaumakani, Kaua’i, died May18, 2001, at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital, at the age of 91.
A homemaker, she was born Jan. 27, 1910, in the Philippines.
She is survived by two daughters: Lucrecia (Santos) Carnate of Kaumakani and Caridad (Gerry) Carnate of ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i; 16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Friday, May 25, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, May 26, at ‘Ele’ele Episcopalian Church from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Filipino Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Ethel Gonsalves
Ethel L. Gonsalves of Anahola, Kauai, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 18, 2001, at the age of 58.
Born in Honolulu, Oahu, on March 25,1943, she was a Setter and Straighter with K-Mart.
She is survived by: her husband: Tommy Gonsalves of Anahola; three sons: Tom Jr. (Sandy) Gonsalves of Wailua Houselots, Kapaa, Todd (Melva) Gonsalves of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, and Christopher Gonsalves of Anahola; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister: Roberta St. Laurent of Ventura, Calif.; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; with service to begin at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Jose Cagalawan
Jose “Joe” Cagalawan of Pearl City, Oahu, an Army Veteran and former Merchant Marine, died on March 24, 2001 at the age of 78. He was born in ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i on March 22, 1923.
He is survived by his wife, Setsuko and son Anthony of O’ahu; sisters; Phyllis Silva, Julia Castillo, Rose Asuncion and Alvina Klosek, sister-in-law; Sophie Cagalawan, several nieces and nephews.
Committal services were held on April 11, at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, O’ahu.
Conchita Cagalawan
Services will be held next week for Conchita “June” Cagalawan Esselborn, who died Oct, 3, 2000, at Kennedy Memorial Hospital, N.J. at the age of 74. She was born in ‘Ele’ele, Kauai on April 19, 1926.
She is survived by her husband; Walter, daughter Lani; sons: Raymond of New Jersey and Ralph of Florida; sisters: Phyllis (Berry) Silva, Julia (Manuel) Castillo, Rose (Alfred) Asuncion and Alvina Klosek, sister-in-law Sophie Cagalawan.
Mass services will be held Wednesday, May 30, at Holy Cross Church by Father C. Keahi at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Kauai Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
Luis V. Coloma
Luis V. Coloma of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 16, 2001, at the age of 81.
Born in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Aug. 26, 1917, he was a retired Ditchman with Lihue Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by: wife Margarita Coloma of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i; son: Reynaldo (Brenda) Coloma of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i; daughter: Elena (Napoleon, Jr.) Comisap of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers: Onofre Coloma and Benito (Magdalena) Coloma both of the Philippines; sister: Cresencia (Clarito) Reginaldo of Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 25, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Mass officiated by Father Paul will begin at 11 a.m. Followed by burial at the Kauai Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.

Nathan Pikini Sr.
Nathan Frank Lipai Pikini Sr., of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at Queen’s Medical Center on May 2, 2001, at the age of 43.
Born in Honolulu, on Aug. 6, 1957, he was the son of the late Milton Pikini and Theresa Lopes. A musician for the past 29 years, he has performed for hotel conventions and showrooms with numerous groups such as David Kalani Trio, Kalena 3, Island Flavor, Destiny, Na Kaholokula and Hawai’ian Nights. He is also the co-founder and band leader for the group “Nakana.” He has recorded with Chucky Boy Chock, Robbie Kaholokula, Larry Rivera, Nick Castillo and Lurline Rivera. In 1992, Nathan performed with the Honolulu Symphony for the “Na Mele Ohana” Concert. His most recent engagement was at the Hyatt Regency Kaua’i for the “Drums Of Paradise Luau Show” since 1996, as the band leader. He also was a tour driver for Polynesian Adventure Tours and Grayline of Hawai’i. In addition, he was involved in the community, as a coach for Mililani and Kapa’a High School football team, as well as Kapa’a and Lihu’e Pop Warner football.
He is survived by his wife: Christine Pikini of Lihu’e; his mother, “Ma” Sally Pikini of Kailua; three sons, Kevin (Loreta) Robyn, of Las Vegas; Wayne (Mildred) Robyn; Nathan Pikini Jr., of Lihu’e; three daughters: Jeanine (Lloyd Dosono) Robyn of Puhi; Nathrene (Bransyn) Estrada of Lihu’e; Jona (Jaime Villon Jr.) Pikini of Puhi; brother: David Lopes of Puhi; sisters Ranei (Duane) Alvarez of Kane’ohe; Allison (Julian) Davis of Hanama’ulu; hanai brothers: John (Priscilla) Loo of Honolulu; Buddy (Camile) Panoke of Big Island; Bruce (Darlene) Ah Chong of Wai’anae; hanai sister: Sue (Stanley) Yoshimoto of Kapahi; Druann (Jinx) Panoke of Kapa’a; 15 grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Family and friends may celebrate his life at noon on Saturday, May 26, at Kapa’a Missionary Church. Services to begin at 3 p.m. Family suggests Aloha attire and that flower arrangemenst be omitted. Leis are welcome.

Rosemarie Harrison
A memorial service will be held Saturday for Rosemarie Bisarra Harrison, formerly of Kekaha, who died on Jan. 28, 2001, at the age of 56. A resident of Blue Bell, PA, she was employed as a Customs Agent.
She is survived by: her husband Bruce; son Troy Patubo of Blue Bell, PA; daughter Lisa Marie Yoshida; one grandson; father and stepmother Filamor & Petra Bisarra Sr; mother and stepfather Mary (Pagala) and Simplicio Ochinang of Kekaha, Kauai; three brothers: Alfred Pagala of Honolulu, O’ahu; Elmer Bisarra of San Diego, CA; and Filamor (Adriene) Bisarra Jr of Waipahu, O’ahu; two sisters: Valerie (Kent) Murata of Mililani, Oahu; and Adela Ochinang (Anthony Vea) of Kekaha, Kaua’i; one niece, four nephews and numerous uncles, aunties, and cousins.
A memorial service and scattering of her ashes will be held at Kikiaola Boat Harbor in Kekaha at noon on Saturday, May 26.
Sachiko Veveiros
Sachiko Kamei Veveiros of Kapa’a, Kauai, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 19, 2001, at the age of 88.
Born in Waimea, Kauai on Nov. 19, 1912, she was a retired Clerk.
She is survived by: one sister of Honolulu, O’ahu; one nephew and nieces of outer islands; niece: Mildred Hiramoto of Omao, Kauai.
